Evidence-based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs were implemented at the YMCA of the Chippewa Valley, in response to changing health care trends, to deliver community-based health and wellness services in innovative new ways rooted in a common commitment to preventing and combating chronic disease. Anyone who visits the Y can take advantage of different programs that help our community become healthier and have a higher quality of life.
This fitness class is different from the start because it is based on scientific research and input from older adults. The result is a fun and lively program that works! Format includes cardio endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance which can help reduce arthritis symptoms. Free to members, but registration required. Physical pre/post assessments included to track your progress! All classes are held in the Fitness Training Center.
A group exercise program for people living with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. To participate, individuals must be able to perform simple exercises, follow verbal directions, and participate in conversation. LEEPS has been shown to improve physical fitness and mood in people living with dementia. The program is safe and effective, and is a fun social program taught by qualified and trained YMCA staff.

If you are at high risk for type 2 diabetes, this program is for you! The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps those at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles by eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and losing a modest amount of weight in order to reduce their chances of developing the disease. Research by the National Institutes of Health has proven that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%.
About the Program
In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will help facilitate a small group of participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity, and other behavior changes over a 12-month period, beginning with 16 weekly one-hour sessions followed by monthly maintenance for added support to help them maintain their progress.

Who Can Participate?
In order to qualify for the program, you must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI > 25) and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes indicated by a confirmatory blood value, prediabetes determined by clinical diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes (GDM) during previous pregnancy, or a qualifying risk score.

Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. The Y and LiveSTRONG® have joined together to create LiveSTRONG® at the YMCA, a research-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health.
Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve goals such as: building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LiveSTRONG® at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

Here is where you start! The Survive & Thrive program is focused on helping survivors engage life after cancer. Through understanding and support, the Chippewa Falls YMCA is here to help cancer survivors by providing them with the necessary tools, both physically and mentally, to focus on you - the whole person - not the disease.

Meet with a Wellness professional to determine your fitness goals, receive SMART goal based assessments, and then be provided individual recommendations on how to best use your YMCA membership to reach your goals. Body composition testing, heart rate, blood pressure, functional movement screening, flexibility, strength, endurance, and performance testing can all be measured followed by a complimentary personal training sessions customized to your best course of action.
