Evidence-based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs were implemented at the YMCA of the Chippewa Valley, in response to changing health care trends, to deliver community-based health and wellness services in innovative new ways rooted in a common commitment to preventing and combating chronic disease. Anyone who visits the Y can take advantage of different programs that help our community become healthier and have a higher quality of life.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps those at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles by eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and losing a modest amount of weight in order to reduce their chances of developing the disease. Research by the National Institutes of Health has proven that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%.

Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. The Y and LiveSTRONG® have joined together to create LiveSTRONG® at the YMCA, a research-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health.
Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve goals such as: building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LiveSTRONG® at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.
