The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley offers sports opportunities for all ages and abilities. Whether you miss “suiting up” or are new to team sports, the Y’s sports classes and leagues provide a perfect opportunity to be active, social and to reconnect or start fresh with a sport you or your child will love.
We offer a variety of youth, middle school, high school, college, and adult sports throughout the year. Program and registration information will become available as the league dates approach. BASKETBALL
Sport Tykes Basketball Children will work on hand/eye coordination while learning basic ball handling skills. Teamwork and following directions will be stressed. Gym shoes are required. Parent participation is encouraged but it is not required.

Young Players Academy This is an opportunity for the young basketball player (minimum of 1 year of league experience) to take their game to the next level. Comprehensive drills cover: passing, shooting, dribbling with both hands, shooting essentials, finishing, triple threat stances, defense, and decision making. Drills use skills and in-games corrections and adjustments. This is not for beginners but for those looking for more advanced basketball training. Players should know the rules, basic fundamentals, and terminology already.

Youth Winter Basketball League
Now Teaming Up with the Chippewa Falls YMCA! Is your child crazy about basketball? So are we! Our 1st–6th Grade Winter Basketball League is back—bigger and better than ever. This year, we’re excited to partner with the Chippewa Falls YMCA, expanding opportunities for fun and competition. While most games will be played at the Eau Claire Downtown YMCA, some games will take place in Chippewa Falls. At the YMCA, we focus on teamwork, skill development, and having fun—not just the final score. Every child gets a chance to play, grow, and thrive in a supportive environment.
League Details:
Divisions are split by gender and grade.
12-week season starting the week of November 30.
One practice per week, scheduled by each team’s coach.
8-game season, beginning the second week of January.
We’ll start with a 4-week schedule, then reseed teams into divisions (if applicable) for the final 4 games—ensuring more balanced and competitive matchups.

Little & Big Dribblers
Come join the Chippewa Falls YMCA Little and Big Dribblers basketball program for boys and girls in kindergarten through 4th grade. The Little Dribblers (K-1st grade) will focus on basketball skills and players will be introduced to the basic fundamentals of basketball, while having fun.
The Big Dribblers (2nd -4th grade) will focus on introducing individuals to playing organized basketball. Participants will learn the fundamentals of basketball, including competing in games. Big Dribblers also offers an opportunity for ALL participants to play in each game.

TENNIS
The John and Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center has junior programming starting with Red Ball 4-5 year olds to the ACE program for high school varsity players. The Tennis Center Director Matt Boughton (USPTA Elite Professional), Jon Pickett (USPTA Elite Professional), or Meg Minton (USPTA Elite Professional), will be happy to assist you in placing your child in the most appropriate group. Please take note that although most groups are categorized by age, ability and maturity are considered in placing youth in the best group for them.
To register for the ACE program, participants must get approval from an instructor. Online registration is NOT available for this program.
Lesson Information
A group lesson must be paid in full to secure a spot in the class

Lesson Offerings:
Red Ball 1 | 1 lesson per week - For children ages 4-5 or the proper skill level. A fun, engaging program to teach the fundamentals of tennis including hand-eye coordination, back and forehand strokes, simple games where points are scored, cooperative activities, basic rules, care of equipment, and sportsmanship.
Red Ball 2 | 1 lesson per week - For children ages 6-8 or the proper skill level. Children will continue to improve on the form taught in Red Ball 1. Players will also begin to learn basic rules of the game, to keep score, make shot decisions, and basic tenets of doubles.
Orange Ball | 1 lesson per week - For children 12 and under or the proper skill level. Children will continue to develop what they learned in Red Ball 2 while learning to: play and apply rules of individual or doubles play, practice, encourage and support others, and continue their development of being a good sport.
Green Ball | 1 lesson per week - or tennis players that have been through the Red/Orange ball programs and are ready to transition to the 78-foot court.
Ace III | 2 lessons per week - Competitive Junior High to Junior Varsity level players. This class is designed to be fun and interactive, all while meeting the current needs of the player. We’ll teach core concepts such as correct techniques in ground strokes, volleys, serves, overheads, and specialty shots such as drop shots and lobs. Tennis strategy and point construction is introduced as well as sportsmanship and integrity on the court. Online registration is NOT AVAILABLE. Players must have instructor consent before registration.
Ace II | 2 lessons per week - Junior Varsity level players. This class focuses on the fundamentals of match play, having fun, and making friends. Students will learn the importance of each point and be given strategies to develop their natural skills in both singles and doubles match play. Online registration is NOT AVAILABLE. Players must have instructor consent before registration.
Ace I / High Performance | 2 lessons per week - Varsity players. There will be intensive workouts with singles and doubles strategies and mental toughness for match play scenarios. Online registration is NOT AVAILABLE. Players must have instructor consent before registration.

The John and Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center offers an extensive range of group lessons (drills) to meet a variety of ability needs. Whether you are a beginner looking to pick up a new, fun activity, or a seasoned veteran of the game who wants to polish up their skills, our staff can help find a spot for you! Meg Minton or the Tennis Center Director will be happy to assist you in finding the correct class for your abilities.
Lesson Information Adult group lessons are intended for 3-12 participants and are separated by the United States Tennis Association’s NTRP Rating System. This system assigns a number rating according to ability and raises in value in .5 increments. Our adult beginners start at a 2.0 level, with the highest level being at a 4.0 level. Please ask our staff for help with placement.

Lessons Offered:
Advanced Doubles - This is a fast-paced, high-intensity, strategic doubles drill for players looking for advanced tactical doubles skills. The drill focuses on communication, movement, strategy, and point play. Players will learn new techniques of modern doubles as well as practice tried and true methods. Players should expect a mix of instructional drill and coached point play.
Beginner | <2.5 level - This class will cover basic strokes, serves, service return, ground strokes and volley. Proper footwork and all judgment skills will be taught. Ratio is 5:1.
Intermediate | 2.5-3.0 level - The basic strokes will be refined, and strategy will be introduced. Proper grip and stroke production will be stressed. This class will introduce the patterns of play and working a point. Ratio is 5:1.
Advanced | 3.0-3.5 level - Intended for players who want to improve their strokes and learn important strategies of the game. Half of the class time is spent on improving stroke production, and the other half is spent on strategies. Ratio is 5:1.
Singles Drill | 3.0-4.0 level
Adult Doubles DRILLS | 3.5+ level - Drill is open to all players rated 3.5 and above. Players will drill for the majority of the time.

This soccer program allows players to learn the fundamentals of the game. Our focus is on teaching basic skills and fostering teamwork in a non-competitive setting. Teams are organized by birth year: U4, U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, and all teams are coed. For our U4 & U6 programs, a parent is required to participate at all practices and games to support their player.
Practices take place on Wednesday evenings, with game-like activities on Saturdays. All games will take place on Saturday mornings at the Menomonie Area Soccer Fields, competing against other Menomonie REC teams. Fall 1 Session:

Private Soccer Lessons | Ages 6-18 Soccer is a very demanding sport in many ways. As a soccer player you must have the technical skills, IQ, and athletic ability to be successful. If you are looking for improvement in your technical ability or game IQ/awareness, you can schedule a private lesson with UW-Eau Claire Men's Soccer and Semi-Professional player Sean Redmond. GYMNASTICS
A great learning environment for your child. The YMCA Gymnastics program aids in your child’s physical, mental and social development. Our instructors focus on fun while teaching children the basic skills needed to progress into our school age progressive program.
Preschool Class Objectives:
To build confidence & raise self-esteem.

Parent & Tots | 2 years
Join other families for our parent and tots gymnastics class. We emphasize a safe physical play environment incorporating group time with a musical warm-up, fun stretching and introduction of basic body positions and gymnastics skills. Parents will assist their child through a series of stations, obstacle courses, and activities on all 4 gymnastics apparatus.
Tumble Tots | Age 3 (Parent As Needed)
Join other preschool aged children for our tumble tots gymnastics class that provides basic gymnastics progressions taught on each apparatus. Children will be encouraged to follow multi-step directions during this explorative gymnastics class; including stretching, jumping, rolling, balancing, and swinging along with communicating with peers and taking turns. These classes are for children who are 3 years old and parent assistance is welcome as needed.
Big Shots | Age 4-5
Join other preschool aged children for Big Shots, our gymnastics class for 4- and 5-year-olds not yet enrolled in kindergarten. Children will practice basic gymnastics skills as they navigate through a variety of warm-up activities, stretches and station circuits designed to improve strength and body awareness. This class is intended to prepare children for our school-age progressive class program.
Hot Shots | Age 3-5
This one-hour class is offered by invitation only and is designed for children who have the strength and flexibility to learn more advanced skills. Students should have mastered basic gymnastics skills and be good listeners. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time for fun!

From bars to beam and floor to vault, our step-by-step approach ensures every child is challenged in a safe and positive environment. Not only will children learn the fundamental skills of gymnastics, but they will also build flexibility, strength and confidence.
KinderGym | Ages 5 & 6
KinderGym is the perfect fit for kids who have aged out of preschool classes or are just getting started in gymnastics and are kindergarten age. This class is a fun and supportive experience with instructors who will guide children to improve strength & flexibility; forward & backward rolls, bridges, handstands & cartwheels, balancing skills on beam, swinging and strength on bars, and lots of running and jumping on vault.
Beginners | Ages 7-18 This class invites children aged 7+ who are new to gymnastics to join us for an introduction to the sport. Instructors will guide participants to improve strength and flexibility and lay a foundation of basic gymnastics skills and important body positions. Skills include: forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, bridges & handstands on floor; kick pullovers, swinging & casting on bars; balance skills, jumps & dismounts on beam; running, hurdles, and jumping up on vault.
Intermediate | Ages 5-18
This class invites children who have completed beginner level or KinderGym gymnastics to continue growing and learning new skills. Instructors will reinforce previous skills; work on jumps & leaps, and bridge-kick-overs on floor; jumps, turns, inversions & side-handstand dismounts on beam; pullovers, casting & hip-circles on bars; donkey kicks & handstand flatbacks on vault.
Advanced | Ages 6-18
This class is for children advancing from intermediate level to continue to be challenged and learn new skills. Previous skills are reinforced; improving strength & flexibility; work on handstand bridge-kickovers, limbers, back extension rolls, and dive forward rolls on floor; jumps & turns, tip-up handstands, low-beam cartwheels & dismounts on beam; pullovers, glide swings, casting & hip-circles with under-swing on bars; run, hurdle & jump up to vault table, donkey kick to handstand, and handstand-flatbacks to low mats on vault.
Prep Level 2 | Ages 6-18
This class meets once a week for an hour and a half, and the skill focus mirrors USAG compulsory level 2 gymnastics. Gymnasts will continue to improve strength, flexibility, and body awareness; work on cartwheels & roundoffs, handstand forward-rolls, introduction of handsprings, walkovers, & split leaps & jumps on floor; tip-up handstands, front & back kicks, pivot turns, & side-handstand dismounts on beam; glide swings, chin-up pullovers, & casting into back hip-circle under-swing dismount on bars; run, arm circle jump up to vault table and handstand flatbacks on pit mat on vault.
Prep Level 3 | Ages 6-18
This class meets twice a week for an hour each practice time, and the skill focus mirrors the USAG compulsory level 3 gymnastics requirements, which will prepare gymnasts to join our competitive team. Gymnasts will improve their body control and awareness; work on roundoff back-handsprings, front-handsprings, back extension rolls, split leaps & jumps and half-turns on floor; handstands, cartwheels, half-turns, split leaps, & side-handstand ¼ turn dismount on beam; glide swings, double back hip-circles, front hip-circles, & squat on, jump off dismounts on bars; run, arm circle hurdle, front handspring over side-ways pit mat on vault.
Boys Gymnastics | Ages 5-18
This class is the first of the progressive classes aimed at boys that are new to the sport of gymnastics. This class will help your child learn the basics of gymnastics and lay down a foundation upon which to build, including a variety of stretching and strength building activities. Skills emphasized include handstands and cartwheels with assistance, a variety of rolls and jumps on floor, assisted pullovers and swinging on bars, and proper vaulting basics.
Be a part of something special! The competitive team consists of levels 2-10 and XCEL divisions. Each level focuses on solid basics and skill progressions while developing the YMCA core value: respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty. The team competes October-March and travels to different YMCAs throughout Wisconsin. The competitive season concludes with the State meet in March. Team building activities are planned throughout the year in addition to competitions.
New members can join the team from Advanced Intermediate, or other programs in April, June, and August.

GOLF
The Chippewa Falls YMCA is excited to offer a state-of-the-art Golf Room with a launch monitor (3D tracking) and Simulator! The 55-inch screen and Fuberbuilt turf mat closely resemble true fairway impact. The simulator offers skill challenges to improve different aspects of your game, five simulated golf courses to play on, and practice ranges to work on ball striking.
