About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic, organized, and compassionate Child Care Center Assistant Director to assist in leading daily operations of our child care center. This role is both rewarding and fast-paced, requiring strong leadership, knowledge of child development, and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
The ideal candidate is flexible, detail-oriented, and thrives in a collaborative environment while maintaining professionalism and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Daily Operations: Oversees center operations, ensures licensing compliance, and maintains a safe, organized environment . Create and execute week to week schedule for staff and children as well as adjusting as needed on a day to day basis.
Family Engagement & Enrollment: Conducts tours, manages waitlists, supports enrollment, and maintains strong communication with families
Staff Leadership: Assists with hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management; fosters a positive team culture
Program Oversight: Supports curriculum implementation, coordinates events and activities, and ensures developmentally appropriate practices. Oversees School District Eau Claire 4 Tomorrow (4k) program.
Classroom Support: Steps into classrooms as needed to assist staff and ensure quality care
Compliance & Safety: Maintains accurate records and uphold all health, safety, and regulatory standards
Systems Management: Oversees Procare and ensures accurate tracking of attendance, schedules, and communication
Additional Expectations
Availability to respond to after-hours needs as required
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
Serve as a positive role model for staff and children
Maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability
Key Qualifications
Required
Meet Wisconsin DCF requirements for a center licensed for 51+ children.
Obtain Wisconsin Registry certificate within three months of hire.
Minimum of two years of experience in a licensed early childhood setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
Working knowledge of Wisconsin DCF licensing regulations.
Experience implementing evidence-based behavior guidance practices (e.g., Conscious Discipline, Pyramid Model).
Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to maintain 35 hours of annual continuing education and required licensing/accreditation trainings.
Preferred
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
Three to five years of progressive early childhood experience, including leadership responsibilities.
Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring staff.
Experience in a NAC-accredited and/or YoungStar 4–5 Star program.
Experience supporting CACFP compliance and documentation.
Experience with child care management software (Procare, Brightwheel, or similar).
Administrative Credential (WI) or coursework toward Director qualifications
Passion for family engagement and building high-performing teams.
Required Training
35 hours of continuing education annually
All required state licensing and NAC trainings

Developmentally Appropriate Practices (WEMELS or equivalent)
