The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley is looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative leader to help our School-Age and Child Watch programs—and the people behind them—thrive. About the Role

As the School-Age & Child Watch Assistant Director, you’ll help lead the daily operations and continued growth of programs that children and families rely on. Working alongside program leadership, you will:

  • Recruit, train, supervise and develop an outstanding team of staff and volunteers.

  • Provide coaching, encouragement and clear communication that help employees succeed.

  • Monitor daily operations and ensure programs are safe, engaging, inclusive and well organized.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement, innovation and growth.

  • Help promote programs through community outreach and marketing efforts.

  • Build positive relationships with families, schools and community organizations.

  • Support YMCA special events, branch operations and community initiatives.

  • Model the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in everything you do.


As the School Age & Child Watch Assistant Director, you will provide support for the YMCA's:

  • Before and After School Programs

  • Summer Day Camp

  • School-Age Enrichment Programs

  • Child Watch (Drop-In Child Care)

  • Parents' Night Out

  • Youth and Family Special Events

Key Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, education, recreation, child development or a related field—or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Education that meets Wisconsin DCF licensing requirements for director status.

  • At least one year of experience in childcare, youth development or a related program.

  • At least one year of experience leading and supporting staff or volunteers through coaching, training or mentoring.

  • Knowledge of child development, inclusive practices and safety standards.

  • Ability to manage program operations and schedules, with a basic understanding of budgets.

  • CPR and First Aid certification—or the ability to obtain certification shortly after hire.

  • Strong communication, leadership and relationship-building skills.

  • A genuine commitment to the YMCA’s mission and core values.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience in school-age childcare, youth development or a related program.

  • Experience working with families, schools or community partners.

  • Familiarity with program management, reporting or scheduling platforms.
